Weather Holds Back Corn Planting Darkens 1948 Meat Forecast

The agriculture department warns a dark outlook for corn prospects due to wet weather with 20 to 25 percent of corn acreage unplanted as of June 1. A short corn crop could cut meat, milk, and poultry supplies, pushing prices higher. Weather officials note little improvement since June 1, delaying plantings in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. Authorities expect higher annual consumption of milk and meat to meet a decent diet.
