Prospects for End of Sugar Rationing by July
Sugar rationing for households may end by July as the United States receives a larger share of the world sugar pool. The International Emergency Food Council boosted U S allotment to 7,150,000 tons from 6,800,000, a gain of 350,000 tons or about five pounds per person. An Agriculture Department official said the extra supply could allow ending rationing for households by month’s end, with remaining needs met for the year at near prewar per person levels. The end expires Oct 31, and a banking committee plan would end rationing the day the measure becomes law.
