Supreme Court Won't Change Rail Freight Rates Status
The Supreme Court refused to issue an order making an Interstate Commerce Commission rate change effective immediately. The ICC ordered a 10 percent increase in the north and east and a 110 percent reduction in the south. Nine states including Wisconsin and 33 railroads contested the order in suits dismissed May 27 by a federal court in Utica. The court also denied the government’s request to vacate the 60 day stay for appeals, so the stay remains in effect.
