Three Injured In County Vehicle Crashes

Three people were injured in county traffic crashes reported by Green County deputies. Kathy Armstrong and Steve Eichman of Beloit were hurt in a two vehicle collision at 12 33 a m two miles east of Monroe on Highway 1181.

Milwaukee 14 members sentenced in draft records theft

Eleven war protestors in Milwaukee were given two year prison terms for theft arson and burglary tied to the Sept 24 seizure and burning of draft records. The 12th defendant Rev Jon Higginbotham awaits sentencing after his request to delay until he secures an attorney.

Hey Look Me Over girls program at Monroe High

A special program for girls titled Hey Look Me Over will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Monroe High School Lecture Hall. Rita Ford Guernsey will present fashion talks and demonstrations to 10 to 18 year olds, Girl Scouts, and 4-H members. The Green County Extension Office and Monroe 4-H and Girl Scouts sponsor the event, coordinated by Mary Alice Hart.

UW Madison honors and June commencement speakers list

Christine A. Bober and Geraldine J. Bober are among UW Madison graduates to be honored at the All University Honors Convocation at the Field House and among candidates for degrees at the June Commencement on June 9 at Camp Randall. Other Monroe area graduates include Brian Bouda Carol Summeris Christine Bober Daniel Landis Caroline Roethe Karl Drye Russel Carter and Duane Liedschlag with the university reporting more than 183000 degrees granted in its 120 year history. A separate notice reports Edward Reedich drowned trout fishing near Merrill and Air Force S Sgt Charles Dreher from Kewaskum was aboard a missing reconnaissance plane off Alaska.

Amish Truancy Case Heads to Court Hearing June 13

Judge Roger L. Elmer will hear oral arguments at 9 a.m. Friday June 13 in Green County Court in the truancy case against Amish fathers Wallace Miller and Jonas Yodler for keeping their high school aged daughters from the public school. Transcripts from April’s trial are available to both sides and a written opinion will follow.
