Prime Minister Harold Macmillan told the House of Commons he hopes to work with Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd for a long time. He denied inspired statements about Lloyd’s removal and countered a Times report suggesting a replacement.
Monroe High announces class officers by grade with a new separate prom king vote planned for February. Seniors James Lovelace Laverne Altman Ruth Benkert Thomas Krueger lead as president vice president secretary treasurer. Juniors Thomas Marean Kirby Weeden Tana Loveland Neil Jacobs serve in respective roles. Sophomores Claire Bidlingmaier Sandra Babbler Connie Spring Kenneth Smith hold posts.
Monroe officials say more than 30 flags placed on veterans’ graves at Greenwood Cemetery were taken during or after the Memorial Day program Saturday. Relatives noticed missing flags. additional flags were secured yesterday and replacements made.

MAULTON The first degree murder trial of Jane Dakin a 17 year old high school student accused of shooting her mother and father continued. She pled innocent by reason of insanity and displayed little emotion as jury selection began. The defense sought commitment to a state mental hospital, which was denied. The father died from two gunshot wounds and the mother from seven shots. Dakin has been jailed since January 30 and readying for trial while her class graduated last week without her diploma.
C. Joseph Jackson, manager of the Eugene hotel since August 1956, resigns effective July 1. He will become resident manager of the LaSalle hotel in South Bend Indiana. He came to Monroe from South Bend where he had been connected with the LaSalle hotel and employed by the chain prior to that time.
Madison reports 67 people killed in Wisconsin traffic accidents during May, raising the year to date toll to 261 for the first five months of 1959, compared with 274 in the same period of 1958.
Ray Hardman, 68, turned himself in to a deputy sheriff after a nightlong manhunt in Lacona Iowa following the shotgun killing of his daughter Grace 25 and wounding of neighbor boy Don Neer 12. More than 25 officers pursued him as residents stayed indoors. Hardman had escaped from the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown earlier Monday and was held in the county jail.
Washington reports Able the Rhesus monkey died after an operation to remove a recording electrode. The animal had ridden a Jupiter nose cone on a 1500 mile space flight and died at the Army Medical Research Laboratory Ft. Knox Kentucky. Army officials said the death was not due to the flight.
Mary Ann Frautschy of Route 1 will be honored as the national Holstein girl at the 74th Holstein-Friesian Association of America convention in Omaha Nebraska. Wisconsin seats two national winners with Du Wayne Kutz of Jefferson voted national Holstein boy. Frautschy travels with parents Arleigh Frautschy and W. G. Timm and Green County delegates H Otto Elmer Monticello are also attending.
The Monroe high school announced the 123 candidates for graduation in the Class of 1959. Senior Week culminates Thursday at 8 in the new school gymnasium. The list includes Anita Ainsworth, Richard Ammon, Karen Anderson, Delilah Armstrong, and many others.
Police launched an intensive search for three men after a 10 year old boy claimed he was abducted and held in a car for three hours. Under sheriff Ronald Flones said he believed Donald Peacy's story was a fib.

Monroe High School Alumni Association president W A Bender announces the Larry Ladd orchestra will perform at the annual Alumni Dance Saturday night at the old high school gym. The event features large decorations, balloon displays, prize awards for the oldest alumnus and the farthest traveler, free admission for the Class of 1909 graduates, and opens to all residents, with new officers to be announced.
A petition signed by more than 100 Brodhead residents against increasing hard liquor licenses was presented to the City Council. Mayor Carl Lynstegard seeks licenses for his recreation center, while five current taverns hold liquor or beer licenses. The council deferred action to the license committee and scheduled a June 15 adjourned session to discuss street and sewer bids.
The Midwestern Lee organization bought eight Montana daily newspapers once controlled by Fairmont Corp, an Anaconda Co. subsidiary. Don Anderson, publisher of Madison State Journal, will lead the new operating company as president.
A gasoline tanker exploded near Schuylkill Haven on Route 122 killing eight or nine near a traffic trooper and injuring many more. Eyewitnesses reported a collision with a propane truck, though state police said there was no collision.
No actions were taken at the Monroe Chamber of Commerce meeting last night but members discussed a Cheese Day in 1960, sponsorship of adult classes at the Vocational School, and the chamber publicity program. Charles Mowbray spoke on vocational classes and the publicity drive aims to publicize the city for community improvement with the next meeting set for September.
