The Green County Picture Press Conference on June 18 at the Town Hall cheese factory west of Monticello will be guided by Ring Master Robert Hardell Sr. from Monroe to stage factory scenes of cheese making. Anna and Rachel Rattin, as Mrs. William Trickel and Mrs. Charles Dwyer, will represent Italian Swiss, drawing on Tessin roots. costumes are from St. Gallen with focus on Tessin. Usherettes from the Wilhelm Tell Guild of New Glarus wear outfits from all 22 cantons and will perform a folk dance for TV and press. Additional costumes target Bern, Glarus, Wallis, and French-speaking Geneva to Jura regions. Swiss props include a scythe, wheelbarrow, and sleigh bells, with a two-wheeled cart sought for Betty the Alfred Meiers’ St Bernard pulling duties.

Seven Deaths On County Highways This Year
An 18 year old, Gerald Francis Lancaster, died when his car rolled over two miles east of Monroe on Highways 11 81. Two other youths, Richard Stocker and Gerald Wyss, were injured but listed in good condition. Coroner Herman A. Stuessy ruled the death an accident, marking the county’s seventh highway fatality this year, all within two months. Lancaster recently moved to Monroe from New Glarus. the crash scene involved a dark night, a 75 to 80 mph run, and a wrecked car scattered along the road. The accident was reported to Sheriff Humber and Miss Margaret Roberts of The Evening Times.
