Midway Thrills Highlight 113th Green County Fair

The Green County Fair showcases expanded Midway activity with farm machinery and livestock. Copper Kettle Fudge of Clearwater makes its first appearance with George Surman, a 15 year candy veteran, and his French-born wife. Jerry Mullins of Dayton displays a Remington Rand Handwriting Electronic Analyzer in Exhibition Hall. Dairy Queen Madeline Bosben, from Jude, heads a team with regional Dairy Queens. The Green County Ag Chest promotes dairy displays at the North Exhibition Hall entrance. Rosa Garden Center features seasonal equipment including snow blowers as summer fades.

Krueger Absent From Green County Fair Exhibition Hall Post

Charles Krueger 87 of 1717 15th St will miss this year’s Green County Fair Exhibition Hall supervisor post after major surgery on Monday at St. Clare Hospital. He has supervised open class fruits vegetables grains and honey with Fred Dettwiler for 15 or 16 years and plans to return next year.

Ida Meythaler 88 longtime Green County Fair official dies

Mrs George Meythaler 88 died at 1 20 am in the home of her daughter Mrs Chester Keister Clarno after two weeks there. Born Ida Ella Elmer Sept 29 187x she taught Mt Pleasant schools and married George J Meythaler Oct 28 1897. They farmed Mt Pleasant Township Monticello Hanover and earlier suffered a cyclone loss in 1911 before moving to Rock County.

Green County Fair opens as swine crown set at 113th event

The 113th Green County Fair opened at 1 p m with strong turnout expected for a long weekend. Monroe FFA members dominated junior swine judging with Bob Weiss winning grand champion Poland China boar, Stephen Scott grand champion Duroc gilt, and John Ammon reserve gilt. Senior and junior showmanship crowned Karen Mauermann and Steve Scott, with about eight hogs entered in the junior show. Pony classes,4H Horse Show events, cheese judging, and a full judging schedule follow, with 68 41 members and over 100 horses anticipated. The fairgrounds buzzed with Gold Bond shows, food trucks, and open-class beef and dairy entries noted as the largest in years.

West Will Operate Geology Project Unit at Platteville

The Department of Interior will open a geology project office at Platteville State University this month. It will be Walter S. West’s field headquarters as he maps the zinc lead district of southwestern Wisconsin. West, from Darlington, says the project extends field investigations begun in 1942 and seeks guides to locate new mineral sites.

Heidi dress rehearsals and tours announced for New Glarus

The Times Cay lists a dress rehearsal for the third annual Heidi production on Thursday August 3 with sound effects and mountain scenery by Mrs. Alvin Hoesly. Tours of local farms and cheese factories run August 4 5 6 with start times 10 15 a m and 4 46 5 15 p m. Reservations and exhibits details are provided through the Information Office.

A third night of terror in Detroit raises the riot death toll to 33. Sniper attacks injure eight in Saginaw while three volunteers are shot in Grand Rapids.
