County reports six weekend accidents with several under investigation
Six weekend accidents were reported to the sheriff with two under investigation. A truck struck the third Attica bridge east of the store around 10 24 p m Saturday damaging the railing and shattering a warning sign while paint from the truck stained the bridge. A car went through fencing on the Ralph Stauffacher farm and let live stock onto Highway 1181 East after skidding 300 feet beside Newman and Gerber yards, narrowly missing a tree. Keith J Long lost control on Burgy Flats while rain swelled water across Highway 69 washing gullies in the shoulder. Neither Long nor passenger Sharon Bollig were injured. Other crashes occurred on Highway 69 near Scherer pit, and on Highway 81 near the airport road in Spring Grove Township. A driver, George James Sweet, was treated after his vehicle rolled. The Dischs escaped injury at County Trunk CC and W due to gravel conditions.

The car, owned by H L Shuster of Chrysler Midwest, carried Gen Twining’s aides to Truax and back after the parade. The day featured a home talent program with 16 entries and sports events as the Yankees beat the White Sox 9 to 3 in junior league baseball while Montgomery Electric defeated Oaktron 15 to 5 in girls softball. The Montgom ery team was led by Luann Prien on the mound and 10 timely hits backed by Monroe errors in a festive day of city events.

John H. Figi Dies at 73 in Monroe
Services for John H. Figi 73 of 1502 9th street were held at Stuessy funeral home with Rev. Gerritt E. Mouw of Union Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Figi, a retired Monroe auto dealer who died of a heart attack at St. Clare hospital, was born in Jordan Center and married Minnie Kleeberger. He operated Monroe Sales Co. until retirement 20 years ago and was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Monroe Country Club, and Knights of Pythias. Survivors include his wife four children and 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
