Final figures on accidental deaths show the July 4th week end far safer than expected. Traffic fatalities totaled 348, well under the 430 forecast by the National Safety Council for the 78 hour period from 6 p m Friday to midnight Monday. Ned H Dearborn, council president, called the toll a sign of improving traffic behavior as the year progresses. Drownings and other accidents, including fireworks, raised the total violent deaths to 620. AP survey lists 189 drowned and 83 in miscellaneous accidents. four fireworks deaths were in that category.

Born in Darlington she moved with her mother Della Kemprood from Darlington to Monroe then Milwaukee and California.
