Monroe Woman's Mother Observing Her 106th Birthday
Mrs. Mary E. Thompson grandmother of Mrs. Orson Robertson of 1035 6th avenue Beloit today observed her 196th birthday at her Beloit home. A Syracuse native she moved through Richland County and Vernon County before settling in Rock County in 1906. She married James Thompson in 1897. he died in 1932. She has 14 grandchildren 44 great grandchildren and 70 great great grandchildren. Her children include Earl J. Thompson Esther Snow Belle Pierce Bertha Davis and Martha McCaskey.

David Alex Garrick 48 president of Cherokee Labs Inc Tulsa oil firm and three others were killed when Garrick's twin engine plane crashed on a farm west of Springfield. Garrick's 11-year-old son J B was injured critically and survived. Also died were William Gibson Wood 45 pilot and Cherokee Labs vice president Harry J Richey 33 chemist and Edward Fletcher Rogers 30 Tulsa attorney. The men were en route to Indianapolis on a business trip.
