Senator Butler of Nebraska Dies After Stroke

Sen. Butler, 76, a three term Republican from Nebraska, died at Bethesda Naval Hospital after suffering a stroke in his sleep Wednesday night. He had stayed active Wednesday, meeting visitors and voting on the tax bill. He left a widow with no children, and was the third Nebraska senator to die in three years, following Kenneth Wherry and Dwight Griswold.

Heavy Rain Hits Monroe and Nearby Areas

A cloudburst soaked Monroe with half an inch of rain in under 20 minutes as temperatures fell from 83 to 67. New Glarus and Albany endured strong storms, with Dutch Hollow near Monroe reporting near-zero visibility during a 15 minute downpour. June totals include 5.36 inches in the city. Two Die in Crash After Night Game

A woman and a boy were killed and seven others injured in a crash at Elwin south of Decatur after a night Mississippi-Ohio Valley League game between Decatur and Clinton. Victims include Mrs Lillie Chapman of Charleston and Chester Thomas, 13, from Centralia bound for Manitowoc. Decatur player James Warner, 27, was treated and released. driver Andy Smith, 34, suffered head injuries and possible brain concussion.
