Funeral services for Vilas Cornelius Thompson Jr. 20, of Route 4 Monroe, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cardascio funeral home Winslow with Rev. Roy Murray officiating. Thompson, a native of Monroe born Dec 11 1939, died by suicide in a jail cell yesterday morning after a sentence to Green Bay reformatory by Judge Marshall L. Peterson. He is survived by his mother Bertha Thompson two sisters Bernice Grinder and Irene Wilde. He was predeceased by his father April 16 1956.
Mary Tonkin a Mineral Point native moved from the farm to the town about 20 years ago with her husband. Surviving are her husband a daughter Mrs Homer U Ren Mineral Point a brother B arsney Tonkin Mineral Point four sisters Mmes Will Norman Mineral Point John Petraitis Rockford Thomas Barnes and Harry Cleary Blanchardville and three grandchildren.
The State Board of Health records Wisconsin's first polio case of the year. It was reported in Pierce County during the week ending January 16 and described as non paralytic.
Mineral Point special report says Mrs. Henry Casey, 59, lifelong resident, died Tuesday evening in a Dodgeville hospital after several months of illness. Services set for 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Pauls Catholic Church. Rosary at 8 p.m. at Gorgen funeral home. Burial in St. Pauls Cemetery. Mrs. Casey was the former.

Mrs C K Goldhagen 75 of Warren Illinois died Tuesday noon in Dubuque. Solemn requiem mass will be at 10 a m tomorrow at St Annes Church Warren with Rev William Regnier officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Rosary at 8 tonight in Goldhagen funeral home owned by her son Milo. Born Feb 16 1884 in Galena Illinois she was daughter of John and Ida Green Wenziker. She and Clem K.
The couple married in Rockford on June 23 1909. Surviving are the husband two sons Donald of Belvidere and Milo of Warren a daughter Mrs Edward Steimle of Warren a brother Herbert Wenziker of Fr Pierce Florida and four grandchildren.
Orangeville high school senior Margaret Kay Solberger was chosen to compete with youths from 16 counties for a trip to the National Food Congress in Chicago February 11 to 13. Judges picked her for scholastic standing and outside activities. she may join 16 Illinois delegates if selected. About 300 delegates from 25 states are expected.
