Milk Specialties Eyes Green County Whey Plant

At a public hearing in Lafayette County Court House Milk Specialties representative Carl Wilke said a whey drying plant is planned for Green County with an expected announcement on February 1 and a starting date next fall. The facility could process up to 1.5 million gallons daily, likely near Brodhead, with pickup points by cheese factories to secure 20 000 pounds per point. Over 150 residents attended as the state orders Darlington dump closure by March 1 to reduce Pecatonica River pollution.

Government Day For Green County Planned by Legion

Forest Riese outlined plans for Government Day in Green County sponsored by the American Legion council. Six high schools New Glarus Monroe Juda Brodhead Monticello Albany will send six juniors for a one day session starting at 8 30 AM with a noon lunch funded by local posts. Monroe’s Legion will handle the noon meals and five committee members including Sheriff Deiningen are coordinating.

A five hour blaze near the Bangkok waterfront destroyed about 1,000 slum huts leaving around 10,000 people homeless. Officials estimate damages of 1.5 million dollars.

Park Board to Hire Recreation Directors as Workload Grows

The Park and Recreation Department plans to add a park and recreation director and an assistant within a year. Current supervisor James Mauermann would stay on in a related role while funds around seven thousand dollars a year are set aside for the new position. The 1965 annual report, submitted to city officials, details expenditures including seventy thousand plus on parks and over six thousand on the Community Center with additional forestry costs.

Three Car Crash Reported in Monroe City

A three car mishap was investigated by Monroe police yesterday. Randall L. Wyssbrod 20 of Winslow collided with parked vehicles owned by Max C. Hillar 834 11th St and Ilene G. Petterson Route 3 in the 800 block of 16th Ave damaging the back ends of the two parked cars and front bumper and fender of Wyssbrod’s car. Earlier at 3 36 p.m. vehicles driven by Larry A. Kranig 2335 18th Ave and Gloria O Neil Juda collided in the 800 block of 19th St.

World War I veteran and actor Herbert Marshall dies in Beverly Hills

Hollywood silent star and WWI veteran Herbert Marshall, who lost a leg in service, died at his Beverly Hills home at 12:20 a.m. He was 85. Marshall endured a long career across stage, silent and sound films, radio and television, and was survived by his current wife and two daughters.

Boy Suffered Burns From Spilled Vaporizer
