The AP News In Brief reports a prime lending rate cut boosting investor enthusiasm as stock prices rebound. On Friday the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 8.69 points to 845.70, marking a recovery peak from the previous week.
The Navy announced the Sanguine communications project in Northern Wisconsin could cost up to 745 dollars per customer to keep telephone lines free of interference. Government funding could reduce the price to about 90 dollars per customer depending on current usage and spacing of underground antennas.
A team of trained men awaits today’s call to trigger a space technology based simulated rescue of trapped miners. The exercise centers on locating where a group of miners could be stranded and mobilizing the response.

Milwaukee lawmakers on Friday recommended creating four additional Milwaukee County courts over two years, rejecting six new court proposals. The plan adopts a compromise offered by State Rep. Frederick Kessler.

Three people face arson charges linked to a Saturday Albany house fire and a Brodhead barn blaze from August 1969. Duane O. Walmer 39 Albany, a 16 year old, and Dawn Becherer 32 Brodhead are charged with arson. Walmer and the youth also face theft counts for a November 17 chain saw theft. Walmer is jailed in Green County. fire started away from a stove and arson was suspected.
Reserve County Judge Thad deus J Pruss was ordered to stop hearing criminal cases after public uproar over his handling of a summer firebombing in Milwaukee. The action followed Pruss ruling Rubin guilty of misdemeanors instead of binding over on arson, drawing criticism from officials and the public.
Dr L E Creasy co founded The Monroe Clinic and practiced in Monroe from 1920. He died Friday in Sarasota Florida at age 90 after illnesses since 1970. Cremation planned with memorial services in Monroe. Survived by widow Ledra and daughter Celia Creasy. His first wife Anna W Glatt died in 1943.
Jaycees completed judging for the 1970 Outstanding Young Man Outstanding Senior Citizen Outstanding Young Farmer and Outstanding Young Educator awards. The Bosses Night program at Monroe Country Club features speakers Judge Robert Cannon and tickets via local banks and Jaycee members.
