An Israeli force penetrated about 28 miles into Lebanon and attacked a guerilla encampment near Sidon, killing 10 Arabs, wounding many, and injuring six Israelis. Two houses, a camp, and underground buildings were destroyed.
Health official Elliot Richardson says federal push will move to Northern schools with still unresolved problems. He also notes a new form of discrimination against minority teachers emerging in the South and will be monitored.
A 12-year-old girl was questioned by state and city fire officials about a $150000 fire that destroyed Westminister Presbyterian Church and led to the evacuation of about 40 students from a nearby church school. Leonard V. Fenske, 55, of rural Marathon, died when a car muffler slipped off a jack and struck him late Thursday on his farm in Marathon County.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled six to one that compulsory education laws cannot force Amish children to attend high school. The decision frees Jonas Yoder, Wallace Miller, and Adin Yutzy from fines, citing freedom of religion and parental rights.
