A Milwaukee INS official again urges all aliens to report their addresses during January. Reporting cards are at Post Offices and INS offices throughout the county. Parents may report for children under 14. Willful failure to report may lead to penalties.
Monroe Chamber of Commerce directors elected Robert Dearth as president by unanimous ballot at Marco's Supper Club. James Gordee named vice president Harvey Loeffel treasurer Vernon Schlinger reappointed executive secretary with a $25 monthly raise. The banquet speaker will be Kennett Haagensen on Feb 4 at the Country Club.
Marine Elsing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Elsing, suffered a fractured left leg in a Madison hospital incident after returning from a Vietnam mine explosion injury last June. He is at Veterans Hospital in Madison for about 10 days before transfer to Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland for further plastic surgery. He is in Room 77, 7th Floor, Veterans Hospital, Madison, awaiting mail.
The Clothes Closet of the Woman's Club of Monroe opens Thursday from 1 30 to 3 pm to aid local needy families. It is now on the first floor of the Connard Manor, the former Gonstead Building, with the entrance on the east side.
In Los Angeles a guarded courtroom prepared for Sirhan Sirhan to stand trial on charges of fatally shooting Senator Robert F. Kennedy. The defense indicated it might seek another delay, marking a fourth postponement in the proceedings.
Lafayette County farm management agent Kimer Kohisteat says farmers who missed the first forage clinic can still attend upcoming sessions on January 14 21 and February 4 11. The January 14 meeting covers varieties harvesting and factors affecting production and longevity. Dr. Richard Powell of the University of Wisconsin spoke on nutrients and fertilization last Tuesday. Charles Hartman agricultural agent leads the program.
La Crosse school board members announced a plan to reduce the district budget by 10 percent on Monday night, targeting elimination of interscholastic athletics as part of the cost cutting measures.

A makeshift kidney unit built from an old wringer washer is being used at Cook County Hospital to cleanse blood for a 25-year-old mother awaiting a kidney transplant. The Denise Cohen Memorial Foundation from Niles Township High School funded the device, with a 650 pump and a Cleveland-supplied, rented washer, reflecting student efforts and community support following the death of Denise Cohen, 16, in 1967.
Washington AP reports permanent dairy import quotas announced by Agriculture Secretary Freeman after a Tariff Commission study. The move reduces imports from 1.9 billion pounds last year to about 1.3 billion in 1969 and tightens controls on cheese, milk and butterfat products while preserving certain low cost and non cow milk cheeses.
The Parks and Recreation Department issued three picnic permits requiring shelter houses in Monroe parks. Shelters at Recreation and Twining Parks have limits on dates June through August. A Fond du Lac County halfway house for alcoholics is named Blandine House in honor of Sister M. Blandine, CSA, formerly of Clare Hospital Monroe and now with St. Agnes Hospital Fond du Lac. The Agnesian project, under Episcopal auspices, emphasizes aftercare and counseling for recovery.
Madison AP. Opening day in the 1969 Wisconsin Legislature features a contested Assembly race and a battle over a Senate committee seat. The Assembly refers the Looby Waters race to the Elections Committee with a public hearing planned next week. Democrats challenge two Republican votes in the race and claim improper form. In the Senate, Democrats oppose a Schuele Highways assignment while Republicans maintain a 4 1 GOP majority. Sen. Reuben La Fave chairs the Conservation panel with DeWitt Keppler Kendziroski and others as members. Agriculture panel includes Walter Terry, Clifford Krueger, James Elkhorn, Frank Panzer, and Carl Thompson.
A two year Air Force funded study led by Dr. Edward A Condon will reportedly say there is no scientific evidence that unidentified flying objects are visitors from another world. The report acknowledges the possibility of extraterrestrial life but remains noncommittal on manned space visitors.
