Madison reports doctors lawyers and other self employed professionals are forming more firms under a new tax break. Wisconsin secretary of state records show a surge in professional businesses since 1969 with about five times as many formations as in 1968.
A Wisconsin family returning from Alabama collided with another vehicle in Illinois. The Rockford, Illinois couple and a passenger died. Leona Schmitt and two sons were seriously injured and rushed to hospitals in Bloomington and Peoria.
A federal court ordered the Army to show cause by Saturday why 20-year-old Pfc Ronald Daoust from Beloit Wisconsin should not be returned from Vietnam. The ACLU filed suit alleging he was beaten and forced onto a flight to Vietnam after his discharge request as a conscientious objector was denied.

TEL AVIV ISRAEL claimed two Egyptian kills and Egypt one after the first air battle in a month of strikes. The Israeli command said two of Egypt's MIG21s exploded mid air and a third was hit near the Suez Canal. A Cairo spokesman said one Israeli jet was shot down and an aerial photo showed it exploding. Israel said all its planes returned safely.
Vice President Spiro T. Agnew and his wife Judy arrived in Kathmandu Nepal to a 19 gun salute. Prime Minister Kirti Nidhi Bista and U.S. Ambassador Carol Laise welcomed the Agnews after their Bangkok flight. Schoolgirls greeted them with flower garlands.
A flood control dam failed in the Andes foothills sending a six foot wave of mud and water through Mendez and Godoy Cruz. At least 33 people are reported dead as Mendoza River swelled after days of heavy rain near the city of about 700000 in central Argentina.
Twelve Wisconsin counties secured circuit court approval for claims that an administrative interpretation of aid formulas deprived them of 3.5 million dollars in welfare budget assistance for 1964 through 1967. Amounts listed include Milwaukee 2901974 and Dane 172339 among others.
Federal authorities tied Dizzy Dean to an ongoing gambling ring investigation and announced three arrests in Mississippi and Biloxi. A fourth man was nabbed in New York, with Dean cooperating though not charged. Other arrests tied to interstate communications were also reported.
Matthew Gilbert Jelinek, born 9 55 a.m. Sunday January 4 at St. Clare, is Monroe’s first baby of 1970. His sister Lynne Diane Paulson was born January 1, making her Miss 1970. The Jelinek family lives at 2223 8th St. Monroe.
