New High School Opens Monday With Early Schedule
Monroe high school will begin using the new building this Monday with 8:30 a.m. report for home rooms and a shortened day until 12:35 p.m. Teachers will prepare rooms for instruction and the regular schedule starts Tuesday with 8 a.m. classes and 1:05 p.m. reconvening. a February dedication is planned after full completion.

The death occurred when a neighbor boy's rifle discharged in the kitchen as George retrieved his jacket. Coroner ruled accidental. no inquest.

Ear Biter Receives Commuted Sentence
Gov Vernon Thomson commuted the prison term of John Carli of Hurley who in 1956 was convicted of assault with intent to do great bodily harm for biting off part of John Garber’s ear, manager of Kings Gateway hotel at Land O Lakes. The ear biting occurred in 1954 at a Hurley Bowery club. Sentence reduced to time served.

John Riedl 65 Appleton dies after surgery in Rochester Minn. He served 23 years as managing editor and led the Post Crescent since 1953. Native of Hortonville and longtime friend and critic of Sen. Mrs. Rex Albert suffered a severe facial laceration requiring 20 stitches after a sideswipe near Mon ro west of the Klondike cheese factory. A milk truck rolled into a ditch on Highway 92 near the Ed Disch farm. A semi jackknifed on Highway 92 east of Dayton. Other collisions occurred on Highway 81 near Monroe and at 14th Street and 211st Avenue. An ice house and several parked cars sustained damage.

Lakeland Choir Announces Browntown Monroe Concerts
Lakeland College announces its 45 voice a cappella choir will perform two sacred concert programs in Browntown and Monroe before a two week bus tour starting February 14. The group under Prof W Henry Ellerbusch will sing January 31 at Peace United Church of Christ Browntown and February 1 at St Johns United Church of Christ Monroe.

More Snow and Cold Forecast for Monroe Tonight
Light snow and subzero temperatures return to the Monroe area with more than two inches of snow overnight.
