Jimmie Bartlett Leads Leap Year Birthday Club Day

Nine Children Die In Fire At Home Troy NY

A three story brick house in central Troy burned early today, killing nine members of the Sousie family. Napoleon B. Sousie, 43, and his wife Lillian, 40, plus six other children died. two others survived injured, including a son about 16 in critical condition. Grandchild Judy Stone, 2, also perished. A hospital spokesman noted the family counted 18 children. A second item reports Princess Alexandra giving birth to a son in London.

Racine Man Receives Death For Slaying in Alabama

John Lokos, 27, a carnival worker from Racine Wisconsin, is sentenced to death for first degree murder in the slaying of Leonard Culpepper 57 whose body was found in a well at Cuba Alabama. Lokos is the second of four carnival workers charged in the December killing to receive the electric chair while Gerald Eaton 26 of Buckholts Texas was convicted earlier. Still awaiting trial are Clarence Cecil Coon 24 of College City California and Harold Leon Edwards 20 of Randlette Oklahoma.

Norwalk teens charged in double slayings pressure search for victim father

Two Norwalk youths Richard McAlister 18 and Edward McNally 17 were held on first degree murder charges in the slayings of John Shinners 18 of Wilton and Edwin McAlister father of Richard. Shinners was found shot six times in a Wilton wooded area. Police say the pair ambushed the father at his home and buried his body after the killings. They sought Shinners' car possession.

Cuban death scare shapes Johnson Florida security blitz

Banker E J Lawrence dies at 75 in Monroe

Elmer J. Lawrence a retired trust officer for the Commercial and Savings Bank died at 2 45 AM at 1910 1st Street Monroe after a heart attack. He was born November 1 1888 in Egg Harbor and had a long career including FDIC examiner roles and work in Beaver Dam Lafayette and Milwaukee. He was married to Lizette Thieda and is survived by his wife a son Jackson a sister Mrs Alfred Seering and a grandson Marc Funeral and burial arrangements are noted with services in Monroe and Beaver Dam and Masonic rites adapter.

Illinois Youth Charged In Franksville Robbery

An 11 year old Illinois youth was held on a 5000 dollar bond for robbing the Bank of Franksville eight miles west of Racine. Robert Lee Doremus of West Peoria was captured shortly after the heist in which 518 dollars was taken when a gun was implied and a note passed to a teller. A group of three youths overpowered him after spotting a bone handled pistol that turned out to be a gas pellet gun. Mrs Furcolo Stricken in Boston.

Monroe Argyle Legion Honored For Exceeding Membership

Monroe and Argyle American Legion posts were recognized for surpassing their membership quota at the Third District officers meeting held last night in the Courthouse. Policeman Foils Cliff Hurling Murder Attempt
