YMCA Sponsored Bus Trip To Milwaukee For Local Students
Nearly one hundred fourth to sixth graders from Monroe Junior High and their chaperones joined a YMCA sponsored journey to Milwaukee yesterday. They visited the zoo and Mitchell Park Conservatory, ate sack lunches in a cafeteria room, and toured domes including tropical and arboretum sections. Junior group leaders and volunteer bus mothers assisted, with two drivers coordinating the return by 6 p.m. A second trip will be arranged for those unable to attend, likely during spring break or a spring Saturday.

Three Are Hurt In Area Crashes
Sheriff deputies report three injuries from area crashes. A 24 year old Monroe driver Kent L. Baumgartner sustained cuts and a passenger Gregory Butler suffered facial, knee and scrape injuries in a one car crash west of Browntown on Highway 11. A second crash near Monroe involved Gary L. Porth Convicted In Wife Slaying Life Term Meted
Robert E. Porth a 57 year old missile engineer for Western Electric was found guilty of first degree murder in the death of his wife Hilda Porth. The Forsyth Superior Court sentenced him to life imprisonment after an all male jury recommended mercy. The trial began February 14 and jurors deliberated five hours seventeen minutes. A death penalty had been automatic without mercy. The body was found on a Virginia mountainside August 14 with multiple injuries. Sheriff Ernie Shore testified to implausible alibi changes and a Labor Day statement.
