Average farm size 159.4 acres. average value per farm 19,392 dollars. average price per acre 119.57 dollars. Tenancy 43.6 percent. 1,910 milking machines and 3,204 tractors among 1950 facilities and equipment.
Judith Anderson of New Glarus was named best girl 4 H club member by the Holstein Friesian Association of Wisconsin for her year of activities. David Nelson of Shipdton was named best boy, with Miss Anderson and Mary Arlene Carver of Rock County cited as outstanding girl 4 H members and Nelson plus four other youths as top boys in FFA and 4 H club work.
Panmunjom Korea Maj Gen William F Dean prisoner writes to communist correspondent saying his aide Arthur Clarke was the hero of the night of July 21 1950 and that he regrets not being the hero. The letter dated January was released by Wilfred Burchett to the Associated Press and includes thanks to Mrs Mildred Dean and a request for a fountain pen from Clarke.
The U S Navy reported 11 sailors wounded aboard the destroyer Shelton on February 22 after three direct hits from communist shore fire off the northeast coast of Korea. One hit flooded a compartment. Shelton returned to Japan for repairs. Two neighboring destroyers, Rowan and Henderson, sustained minor damage with no casualties.
Emeal Ferdinand Rabe 72 of Oneco township died at 4 a m in Masshardt convalescent home after months as a patient Born October 23 1879 he was a son of Herman and Emelia Bartelt Rabe He never married and ranched at Kadoka South Dakota for 40 years retiring last July and returning to Illinois He leaves five brothers Gus Fred Winslow Arthur Louis McConnell and Will and four sisters Anna Hulda Black Red Oak Ill Mrs Otto Lanz McConnell and Mrs George Bechtold McConnell Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 30 p m at Basswood Methodist church between Winslow and McConnell burial in the adjacent cemetery the body to be taken from Cardasco funeral home Winslow to the church at noon Thursday.

McDonald takes over as boss of the Reconstruction Finance Corp amid a push by Senator Douglas to block the appointment. The Senate approved 46 to 23 after a two hour debate. McDonald, leaving as SEC chairman, warned merchants to avoid influence peddling.

Madison obituary notes the death of Miss Susan Burdick Davis, 72, a retired assistant to the University of Wisconsin dean of women. She taught at Western Illinois, Northwestern, Evansville, Winona, Kent State, and other state colleges, joining the UW faculty in 1925 after a long teaching career.
