Brazilian Visitors Thrive on Monroe Wisconsin Stay

Angela and Aristeu Caputi, Brazilian high school students in the Americans Abroad program, visit Kohler and Monroe with their family. They tour New York City, meet American relatives, learn to shovel snow, ride snowmobiles, attend a basketball game, and adapt to U.S. life while pursuing future studies in engineering and medicine. They describe snow and ice as new sensations and enjoy American foods and venues.

Monticello Papers Delayed by Trunk Accident and Delivery Mixup

Monticello mail subscribers of The Monroe Evening Times did not receive papers last night after the trunk lid flew open on Highway 69. A delivery bag was run over by an oncoming vehicle, smashing the papers. extra copies could not be produced, so vendors supplied what they could and subscribers received papers this morning. Israel's leaders met as newspapers vowed retaliation for the Arab attack on a Swiss airliner, with six wounded reported out of danger.

Monroe folks jet to Florida and Nassau cruise

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Viney and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ableman depart O’Hare for Florida then a Nassau cruise. Viney Monroe attorney will appear in a Florida court. Others joining include Marco Bregenzer Roger Moe and Trachsel families, with two couples returning March 2. Barbara Bell named La Fiesta de los Vaqueros princess in Tucson. Martha Etter and UW Hoofers Ski Club travel to Switzerland, meeting Swiss hosts and pupils in Grindelwald. Art Tiller, retired public relations man, now in Fort Lauderdale. Ward and Kay Stackpole reside in Holmes Beach Florida with Kay teaching crafts.

Monroe City Council Honors Departed Alderman Olin Flisram

The council observed a moment of silence for Olin E. Flisram who died Sunday night after nine years as Sixth Ward alderman. A memorial honoring his community service was adopted amid several land transfer votes and highway bypass preparations.

Thinking Day Observed by Girl Scouts at St Victor’s

The four St Victor’s School troops hosted Junior Troop 70 Freeport and Inter-racial Greenhill Council members for Thinking Day activities in the school gym. Junior Troop 229 led a candlelighting ceremony while Brownie 204, 205, and 231 participated in dances and fund contributions to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund. Leaders included Mrs. Penticoff, Mrs. Gerber, Mr. Barry, Mrs. Schmitz, Mrs. Callahan, and Mrs. Ferron. Swiss chalet decor and souvenirs completed the event with many Freeport guests attending.

Surface Mail Restored to Overseas Routes Worldwide

Pestmaster R. J. Myers announced that the embargo on international surface mail due to the Long Shoreman strike has been lifted. The Post Office will resume normal surface mail service to Europe Africa the Middle East Virgin Islands the Caribbean and other destinations. Airmail service was not affected. The embargo applied to all Eastern and Gulf ports.

Supports Program PMA Seeks New School Milk Plan

Walter C. Kirchner of the Pure Milk Association told the House Agriculture Committee that the Special Milk Program for children should be expanded and made permanent to boost nutrition and stabilize dairy in the Midwest. He urged funding growth to cover 1969 70 and cited rising milk consumption under the program, with state expenditures listed for Illinois Wisconsin Indiana Michigan and other states.

Fire arson probe at UW Afro-American center in Madison

Madison fire department officials say eight separate fires on the third floor of a former residence housing the UW Afro-American race relations center were arson. Damage confined to the third floor and attic. building owned by the university.
