Dr Tarr to Speak at Dutch Treat Dinner February 20

Dr Curtis Tarr head of the Tarr Task Force and president of Lawrence University will be the speaker at the Annual Co. Board Dutch Treat Dinner at Marco's Supper Club on February 20. Mrs Barnard and committee expressed pride in securing his address and noted his recent Air Force role.

Death of Guy H. Davis longtime Green County supervisor

Former Green County Board of Supervisors member Guy H. Davis 73 of Route 1 Oakley died at 4 p.m. Saturday February 15 in St. Clare Hospital after a stay since January 14. A retired farmer he served on the board from 1956 to 1960 representing Spring Grove Township. He and his wife lived in a remodeled cheese factory at Oakley. Davis was born April 1 1895 in Spring Grove Township to George and Margaret Mather Davis. He married Bessie Fehr August 12 1915 in Freeport and the couple spent most of their married life in Spring Grove area. He is survived by his widow six sons Harold Monroe Burton rural Brodhead Clyde and Dale both rural Juda Delton rural Freeport and Duane rural Monroe two daughters Betty Borden Watsonville California and Mary Lou Nowatzki Monroe 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services Tuesday February 18 at 1 30 p.m. in Ne comer Funeral Home Brodhead Zion United Methodist Church Juda officiating burial in Union Cemetery calling hours 7 to 9 tonight.

Rural blaze heavily damages Albright home in Sylvester Township

Saturday afternoon fire on Route 2, Sylvester Township, damaged the Albright residence beyond repair. Monroe volunteers fought the three hour blaze, saving some furniture as neighbors supplied aid. two rooms remain livable while the attic and roof had major damage.

W A Nampel Killed in Florida Car Crash

W A Nampel of Freeport and Cedarville Illinois was killed Friday night February 14 in Ormond Beach Florida when struck by a car. He was there for his sister’s funeral. Surviving are his widow Helen a daughter Mrs Pred Kerkhof of Baileyville a sister and two brothers all in Freeport and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary in Freeport.

Olin Flisram Dies at 64 Monroe Alderman and Official

Olin E. Flisram, 64, prominent Green County official and Monroe alderman, died Sunday night at his home after a brief illness believed to be a heart attack. He served as Green County Service Officer and Civil Defense Director, was a longtime Sixth Ward alderman, and held many Masonic and veterans roles. Born in Brodhead in 1904, he worked at the Green County Highway Department before his political career. He served in World War II and was active in St. John's United Church of Christ and several veterans groups.

Julie Ann Slated To Get Visit From Her Father at Mayo

Little Julie Ann Douglas seven day old patient at the Mayo Clinic Minneapolis daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Douglas Nora Ill will be visited today by her father who has arrived home from Wildplecken Germany on an emergency leave Her father in the U S Army was stationed in Germany and had to return to his base a few hours after her birth Julie Ann had heart surgery Feb 12 at the Mayo Clinic after being rushed from St Clare Hospital where she was born Feb 10 His parents met him at O Hare Field and he rejoined his wife in Nora His trip to Minneapolis by auto was with his brother in law Fred Teuscher Beloit Mrs Douglas was unable to make the trip at this time She was released from St Clare Hospital Saturday and taken to Nora by her parents Mr and Mrs Emil Grossen Route 3

Wisconsin campus sees National Guardsmen amid student boycott

National Guardsmen with fixed bayonets were on the University of Wisconsin campus as a disruptive student boycott entered its second week. Hundreds of protesters filled Bascom Hall after a Memorial Union rally, while Gov Knowles signaled a likely troop withdrawal as leaders of the protest face decisions on next steps.

VFW Night Awards Honor Essay Contest Winners

The VFW at Palmer Hall honored Voice of Democracy and Bicyle Court participants. Mary Jo Urban won 25 for first in Democracy and placed third in the First District. she will travel to Janesville in March for another 25 prize. Other recognitions covered contestants, school reps, and local media staff.
