North Hollywood California veteran actor Leon Ames released after four hours held at gunpoint in a $50,000 extortion attempt. His wife Christine and two others were involved. a young mechanic captured after taking Mrs. Ames hostage. Police surrounded the car from a helicopter and recovered the money. Lynn Wayne Benner and Patricia Louise Benner were arrested on kidnapping and robbery charges.

Her nephew is Msgr. Donald A. Cunningham of Austin Minnesota.

Monroe Board Studies Index Proposal On Teacher Pay
Monroe Board of Education members will meet Thursday night February 27 to decide on adopting an index guide for setting faculty salaries in 1964 65. The MEA presented a dual scale index plan with questions answered by Wayne Stroessner and committee members in the junior high library. The board adopted a $4900 base minimum for degree teachers next year and discussed severance pay for unused sick days. The MEA suggested a $5000 base for bachelor degree teachers if an index plan is adopted and proposed revisions to degree credit factors. The board will prepare a new index guide based on 4900 base for cost comparison at the February 27 meeting while continuing past salary policies. The calendar shows a 180 day school year beginning September 2 and ending June 3 with holidays as listed. teacher start August 31.

Cedarville Man Admits Break-in At Dearth Motors
A 26 year old Cedarville man admitted the February 3 break in at Dearth Motors Co. and theft of 306.89. Russell L. Harnish was arrested after police pursued leads from Stephenson County deputies. Harnish implicated John W. Shaffer in burglaries at Warren Winslow and rural Freeport. They admitted cash thefts totaling 202 from four firms and attempted loot at two others. Cash was recovered in Shaffer’s home and under a bridge culvert. Items entered include Farmers Exchange Warren Balbac Feed Mill Spahn and Rose Lumber Co. Four Youths Foil Train Dynamiting at Cape Kennedy
Four unnamed youths were walking along Florida East Coast Railway tracks near Cape Kennedy when they found 45 sticks of dynamite wired to a rail. They disconnected the wiring minutes before a southbound freight train passed. Deputy Leif Larson said the devices were electrically wired to the track and could have exploded under the locomotive.
