AP reports Israeli air raids hit El Khanga and Jebel Awebed near Cairo then a camp at Dahshur and canal sector targets. Pilots said hits were accurate. ten raids on Cairo area since January 7.
Groups of six to seven students from the University of Wisconsin left campus after a Jerry Rubin campus speech and smashed windows along a two block stretch near the state Capitol. Police said about a dozen officers moved in. one girl was taken into custody and several stores were damaged.
Secretary of State William P. Rogers discussed the Nixon administration's Middle East policy for transmission to Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. He met for 75 minutes with Yugoslavia's President Tito in Addis Ababa, who is visiting the region and later travels to Kenya, the Sudan, Egypt, and Libya.
Dairy farmers approved a statewide referendum to back a program promoting dairy products. The National Farmers Organization was the only group to oppose the proposal, which echoes a failed measure from about two years ago.
Chrysler engineer Charles Heinen says meeting 1975 federal antipollution goals may raise car prices by 200 to 300 dollars. He notes experimental stage and a manifold reactor afterburner with exhaust recirculation, plus a 10 to 15 percent fuel penalty. Heinen warns on marginal gains and old cars removal.
The Green County Fair in Monroe won the Wisconsin Association of Fairs grand prize for best Advertising and Promotion among county fairs. The award was announced by secretary Mrs. Genevieve Zimdars, with Ww. Schuetze as advertising and promotional director for 27 years. A large imprinted ribbon from the state association will be displayed in the Fair Office. The 1970 fair runs July 29 to August 2.
Lafayette County deputies investigate two Blanchardville burglaries early Tuesday morning at Engstad's Chevrolet Sales and Ingwell Implements. Thieves took money and caused extensive damage, with Engstad's entry hard to pierce and Ingwell's door damaged while silver dollars were missing.
lifelong Green County resident Mrs. Jacob B. Babler 83 died at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday Feb 11 in St. Clare Hospital after two years of old age complications. She and her husband were early residents at Churchill Woods. Services set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday Feb 14 at Stnessy Funeral Home with Rev. Koehler officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery.
Belleville producer Francis Fahey led the Chester White winner in the open division at the 1970 Wisconsin Blue Ribbon Park Show held at Dane County Fairgrounds Madison. Green County showed 28 animals with 14 rated US Number One in the truck lot, while high sellers include Roy Mauerman and Allen Myhre. The final pork champions will be picked Saturday at the Oscar Mayer coolers with Donald Wilkinson speaking. Open gifts sale of pens moved to February 28 at Lancaster Grant County Fairgrounds.
The South School P T A hosted an open house Feb 10 with students and families viewing Valentine themed rooms and historic paintings. Attendees saw art class projects, two attic paintings donated in 1898 by Nellie Summeril and by the 5th grade.
