League Urges Area Sportsmen To Send Letters

Ray L. Beckman of Green County Conservation League urges area sportsmen to protest the Kellett plan to reorganize the Wisconsin Conservation Department. A Thursday rally at the Holiday Inn Madison precedes a Friday hearing, with letters to Sen. Roseleip Gov. Knowles and Sen. Hollander. The two bills Senate 55 and Assembly 100 would place control in three governor appointees.

Lodge Denied Okay To Build

Brodhead city council upheld a planning commission denial of a Mason Lodge building on East Fourth Ave in a residential area. Other actions included Elm tree removal notices, parking changes at Apco Manufacturing, and a pay raise for part time officer Willis Hartwig.

Dr Meyer to speak at Valentine Heart Fund meeting

Dr Thomas Carl Meyer of Madison has been named speaker for the annual Heart Fund meeting at Ludlow Memorial Library 8 p m Tuesday February 14. The event is part of Alpha Zeta ESA Sorority sponsorship with the Wisconsin Heart Association. Meyer, a Johannesburg native, is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Madison and has a long medical career abroad and in Wisconsin. The Heart Days drive begins with business solicitation today with Rolland E Karlen again county campaign chairman.

Washington reports the Internal Revenue Service lists the ten most frequent questions from taxpayers. They cover deduction limits for gasoline and sales tax, choosing Form 1040 long or short, obtaining a W2, refund timing, who must file, who is a dependent, auto tag and license fee deductibility, retirement income credit, utility tax deductibility, and medical deductions.

Community discusses child care center feasibility

Local industry representatives are invited to a community wide discussion at 8 p m Thursday in the Fellowship Hall of the First Methodist Church. Mrs Eileen Wagner and county home development agent Marval Klecker called the meeting after a previous session showed need and possible support for a center for children of working mothers. The event is open to anyone interested in operating or using such a center.

School Merger Review Meetings Planned in Gratiot and South Wayne

Monroe Chamber Approves 1967 Budget and Fireworks Plan

Directors approved an $8,297 budget for 1967 and reported growing memberships. A survey of 156 responses showed strong demand for commuter bus service to Shullsburg and Darlington, with two to three potential lines. Fireworks costs will rise by $100 to enhance the Fourth of July display at Twining Park.

Sketchbook plans for Hall of History studied at New Glarus meeting

The New Glarus Historical Society reviewed a nine page sketchbook detailing plans for a Hall of History to display documents, photos, and migration era materials. Architects Zweifel Marti and Strickler from Glarus and Zurich designed a $35 000 to $45 000 open oak rock and glass structure. Funds include a $1 000 Swiss government gift in 1965 and a $1 000 bequest from T R Hefty of Madison. Music Festival Entrants Sought

Entrants are being sought for the County Music Festival to be held at 7 p.m. Friday April 14 at Monroe Junior High School. Convention Set Feb 24 as SWEA to Close Madison Schools

The 76th annual Southern Wisconsin Education Association convention will be in Madison on Friday February 24 with sessions at the University of Wisconsin Center Memorial Union and area schools. Monroe schools will close to allow teachers to attend the workshop style event featuring 25 sectional meetings including a new Audio Visual Education section. Over 8,000 teachers from 14 counties near Madison are expected.
