40 and 8 Donates Flags of America Books to Monroe Schools

Green County group 40 and 8 has donated 15 additional books Flags of America to Monroe Public Schools. Most will go to the new grade school opening in January. The Veiture total donation reaches 37 to Monroe Public Schools and St Victors School, serving 1 436 students under the program.

Nine Children Die in Lac des Iles Fire Near Mont Laurier

A Quebec blaze destroyed the Girouard home killing nine of the 18 children aged 3 to 18 while the parents and five others escaped. Two siblings were away. four of the children were hospitalized with broken bones and burns. Police identified the dead as Carmen 18, Marie Claire 17, Bernard 12, Jeannine 10, Raymond 7, Mariette 6, Clemente 5, Chantal 4, Solange 3. others not at home included Rachel 21 Norman 20 Andre 19 Monique 23.

Myron K. Stair of 1615 8th St. announces retirement Jan 1 and will not seek re election to the County Board. A longtime conservationist, he helped develop Zanders Lake area and owns a remodeled Pengra school cabin on a 2.5 acre site. He and wife Harriet plan broader travel after active civic life ends, with children in Panama and Belvidere and a brother in Tucson awaiting winter visits. Born June 23, 1900 in Oneco Illinois, Stair has called Monticello home most of his life.

New Courses Added for Monroe Vocational School Term

The Monroe Vocational and Adult School announces a January start for term two with new courses alongside existing offerings. Prizes Set For Monroe Stork Derby Winners

The 21st annual Monroe Evening Times Stork Derby begins at midnight New Year’s Eve to crown the first baby born in 1968 in Green County. Prizes for both the first boy and first girl, “Master 1968” and “Miss 1968,” are donated by local Monroe merchants.

Timm Is Sworn In By CD Police Group

Donald H. Timm of rural Monroe was sworn in as a member of the Civil Defense Police at a Wednesday night meeting in the Community Center. Plans were made for the annual banquet at the New Glarus Hotel on Saturday night February 10. The next meeting is scheduled for January 31 in the Community Center.
