Kellane Wins Irish Sweepstakes Hurdle At Leopardstown

Kellane raced to first place in the two mile Irish Sweepstakes hurdles at Leopardstown in muddy conditions. Lockyersleigh took second and Phaestus came third while favorites Canasta Lad and Boxer faded. The $31,500 winner’s purse went to owner John Kelly, with 13 winning ticketholders earning $130,000 each and runners-up and third-place ticketholders receiving $52,000 and $26,000 respectively. Kellane was ridden by Bill Smith.

Leading indicators show modest November gain

The Commerce Department reports a 0.2 percent rise in the index of leading economic indicators for November, following a 1.1 percent October increase. Five of eight indicators rose, led by longer average work weeks and new durable goods orders, keeping the composite index at 128.5 percent of the 1967 base year.
