A cold weather front brought rain and slush to the Monroe area with a forecast of snow by tonight. Temperatures dipped from a daytime high near 22 to the mid teens and possibly to zero by Sunday, with wind chill readings possibly as low as minus 20 in the north.
Dr. James Logan and John Carr of Natchez Mississippi testified before the subcommittee regarding Bilbo narcotics angles. The aging Carr was ill and testimony suggested either $1000 or $1500 offered to the senator.
RFC chairman Allen resigns after act revision moves. Press Secretary Charles G. Ross says Allen agreed to only a one year term and will report to the White House with Goodloe on RFC changes. Truman to receive report on important act changes cresting the RFC.
Seven year old Tommy Tate fell through thin ice to rescue his four month old puppy. Electric meter readers George Bettin and Henry Loeffler inched 40 feet onto the ice with a plank to reach the boy and then repeated the feat to pull the dog to safety. Both rescues ended without serious injuries.
Representative Bennett announces a congressional inquiry into GI bill courses and Library of Congress distribution of two volumes labeled educational manuals. He cites pages urging abolition of inheritances and government ownership, calling them Communist-leaning and unsuitable for government-sponsored programs. The volumes are described as prepared by the editorial staff of the United States armed forces institute for use by all services.

Delton Davis of Juda suffered severe bruises at 10 this morning after being thrown from a spreader he was driving when it was struck by a car on county trunk KS one mile south of Juda. Otto Schilt, also of Juda, drove the car which collided from the rear in bad road conditions. the spreader was badly damaged while the car sustained light damage according to county police.
The AAA office announced that Tuesday December 31 1945 is the final day to claim soil conservation payments. Several county signers have not filed their applications despite previous notices, and payments will not be issued without the required filings.
Sixty passengers aboard the Illinois Central Panama Limited were injured when five rear sleepers and a dining car left the rails at Ruddock, a narrow neck between Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas. A Negro cook suffered serious burns and a broken collar bone, while others sustained lesser injuries as seven cars remained on the rails to complete the journey to New Orleans.

A chimney fire at Mrs Mollie B Tollefson's residence 1308 16th street shortly after 5 yesterday afternoon caused smoke in the basement. Fire Chief Otto H Kundert said firefighters quickly controlled the blaze. The fire was reported by Robert Goecks.

Richard Jacobson publisher of the Standard Opinion and his family were in the room. he sustained hand burns while fighting the flames. Chief Collins estimated room damage at 300 dollars, with many personal items and oil paintings destroyed.
