Chester Johnsen and wife report a son born yesterday. Christmas babies born Tuesday evening to Lieyd Van Heuten and Ernest Sehwarve families.
Police reported a quiet Christmas with unusually few accidents. At 3 30 Tuesday afternoon a two car collision on 24th avenue caused damage to Keegan’s car about $25 and Kloster’s $60. A hit and run near 14th street and 14th avenue damaged two cars and left both fenders bent. A collision on a county trunk four miles south of Juda occurred as the temperature climbed to 41 in the afternoon.
Charles D. Tyler aged 76 died at his home 1748 15th Street Monroe on Christmas Eve after a stroke and coronary occlusion. Born January 28 1876 in Martintown he lived near Martintown and worked at a sawmill and later at Power and Light. Surviving: wife Catherine two daughters Mrs. Royal Dahms and Mrs. Ralph Greenwald two sisters Mrs. Simon P. Lynch and Mrs. John Werts and several grandchildren. Funeral Friday at 2 pm Shriner-Neushwander funeral home Grace Lutheran officiating burial in Franklin Cemetery five miles west of Monroe.
Five and six survivors of a Quebec plane crash were rescued from an ice floe in the St. Lawrence after three days adrift. The seventh aboard was believed drowned. A small boat from Petite Vallee retrieved two men, while Colabee freighter crew helped push ice. Pilot James Raymond Hartley and two passengers were rescued earlier.
Frank Edward Reasa 59 died at 9 40 last evening at his home in Albany after a long illness. He was born May 12 1887 in Decatur township and married Mary Wendler on December 3 1908 in Immanuel Evangelical church Monroe. The Reasas farmed near Albany then ran a filling station before retiring. Survived by his sister Rockford and others. funeral Saturday at 2 p m in Albany Baptist church with Rev Richard Werner officiating. Burial in Hillcrest cemetery. Body to be removed from Everson funeral home Brodhead to the church at noon Saturday.
Governor Goodland announced that new taxes are essential to cover higher state government costs and pledged full support for the University of Wisconsin regents in the McMurray case. He noted a proposed biennial budget of 169 million dollars and said sources of taxation would be studied before the legislature convenes. He praised the regents for not acting on McMurray’s associate professorship recommendation and cited concerns about presenting both sides of economic questions in class. He also commented on secret meetings as sometimes necessary and reaffirmed opposition to segregating state funds.
A blaze late last night destroyed the Main Street Lutheran church in Viroqua after Christmas services. Church member Chris Ostrem said the 1893 building valued at about $25,000 was consumed by flames.

John Fahrney aged 72 died Christmas morning at St. Clare hospital after four weeks of heart trouble. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at Stuessy funeral home in Monticello with Rev. A R Achtemeier officiating. Interment is Greenwood cemetery. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth Weber Fahrney nine children two sisters and two brothers and 21 grandchildren. He was born in Herzogenbuchsee Switzerland April 15 1874.
Carrie Sophia Price Wait of Red Oak Illinois died Christmas morning in Freeport after a nine month illness. She was born August 8 1871 in Stephenson County daughter of James and Lydia Price. She married Will Wait August 30 1896 in Orangeville. Funeral services Friday at 3 pm at Burlington funeral home Orangeville with Rev John Bruce officiating. Burial Cedarville Cemetery. Survived by daughter Mrs Charles Zipse Freeport brother Albert Price Pleasant Dale Neb sister Lizzie Price McConnell AL four grandchildren one great grandchild. Preceded in death by husband two sisters and one daughter Mrs Morris Zurbriggen. She was a member of McConnell Royal Neighbors lodge.

New York butter slumped in price to 10 cents a pound under Tuesday levels, amid reports of artificial stockpiling to influence January milk payments. The milk price, set by the Agriculture Department, relies on a 30 day base using top grade butter and skimmed milk powder. December 24 marked the end of the base period with January price unchanged at 5.46 per hundredweight. Receipts topped a million pounds Friday as Chicago offerings increased and a local buyer remained a strong taker.
Chicago butter prices slipped to the lowest levels since Sept. 3 as top grade AA 93 score butter traded at 74 cents, down from 80 cents, with the 92 score at 73 1/2 cents from 76 1/2 and 78 cents earlier in the week.

Mrs Rose Kafer a lifelong Monroe tailoress 78 died at 3 50 this morning at her sister Mrs Charles Hartwicks Beloit home where she had been since falling ill New day at Shriner Neushwan der funeral home Rev LeRoy Loats Union Presbyterian church will officiate and burial will be in Richland cemetery east of Monroe. Rose Blackford born July 3 1868 learned tailoring aged 18 worked for Henry Hoehn Discher Schneider later with Alfred Balzly married Sept 11 1889 in Beloit to Joseph Kafer lived in Monroe all her life survived by sister Mrs Hartwick Beloit. Her parents husband and sister Mrs Emil Klingbeil are deceased.
Three hunters yesterday afternoon killed a two foot garter snake northeast of Albany. The previous day one hunter observed caterpillars in his chicken house.
