Jail Break Attempt Ties to Sauk County Murder Case
Two Chicago men William Welter and Lawrence Nutley linked to the Aug. 21 murder of Sauk County Patrolman James Jantz and wounding of Lake Delton Police Chief Bob Kohl face new jail breach charges after an early morning escape attempt at Dane County Maximum Security Jail. They grabbed keys, fled to a sixth floor corridor, but were halted as guards and sheriff’s personnel restrained them. Richard Nicks is awaiting trial on the same murder charge.
