Mrs Mary Bechtolt 86 of 723 16th avenue died yesterday afternoon at home after years of ill health from a broken hip. Born Mary Trindle in Hampton Iowa she married Albert Bechtolt in 1886. Surviving children include E V Bechtolt James D Bechtolt and George T Bechtolt plus two daughters seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services at Bethel church conducted by Rev Paul Gibson with Rev Howard Orians assisting. burial Greenwood cemetery.

The post office schedule for Christmas and the day after was announced by Postmaster John J. Burkhard. Incoming and outgoing mail will be worked and dispatched on Christmas Day with special delivery and parcel post delivered locally. There will be no window service and no city or rural deliveries. The lobby stays open until 4 pm for lock box patrons. On Friday after Christmas the parcel post window opens while registry and money order windows close at noon. City delivery resumes but no rural delivery. All mail will be worked as usual.

Victim Found Under Ice in Sugar River Tragedy
Patsy Lou Hawkins eight year old daughter of Harold and Eva Nolty Hawkins drowned near the Sugar River edge in Brodhead after venturing onto ice with her brother Harold seven. Firemen police and a physician struggled to revive her for over an hour after her body was found under ice carried downstream by the current. Services are planned at Everson funeral home with burial in Brodhead Greenwood cemetery for the second grade student who was born April 24 1944 in Monroe.
