Arms talks set for Vienna and Helsinki in April

The United States and the Soviet Union agreed to begin full scale strategic arms limitation talks in Vienna on April 16 and continue in Helsinki later, resolving a site deadlock and pushing forward efforts to curb the nuclear missile race.

Israeli Cabinet Meets Over U S Peace Plan

The Israeli cabinet held a special session in Jerusalem to discuss a U S backed peace proposal for Israel and Jordan. The plan reportedly calls for Israeli withdrawal from much of the West Bank along the Jordan River and joint talks on Jerusalem’s status after its 1967 capture and unification as Israel’s capital.

Moon rock to be shown at Milwaukee museum display

A moon rock gathered by astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin will be on display at the Milwaukee Museum for two months starting in February. It was intended for the James Lovell regional space center, but the center closed due to funding problems.

Miller firm mulls closing Gettelman plant sources say

Miller Brewing Co President Charles W Miller declined comment on a report the firm plans to close its Gettelman plant. Kenneth G Mueller Local 9 president said Miller officials told the union the 115 year old factory would close Feb 1 affecting about 100 workers. A union source said talks with Miller representatives would occur this week to discuss the plans.

Monroe Chamber plans for 1970 member booklet drive

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce will publish a 1970 membership booklet listing all paid members and serving as a shopper guide. A minimum $35 membership is set, associate memberships are omitted, and directors plan to recruit new members. Officers and directors will be elected in January 1970.

Children To Remain In Hospital After Tragic Thanksgiving Accident

Two of the Palmer children remain in St. Clare Hospital over the holidays after a November 21 accident west of Juda. Susan 16 is in surgery following multiple procedures, Steven 12 recovering from a fractured leg, while Emily 7 left hospital to stay with relatives. The Parmers' parents and two siblings survived the crash. a fund was started for the children.

Retired Banker G E Zuercher Dies Rites Set

Godfrey E. Zuercher 76 of 1502 17th Ave died at 9 30 p m Sunday in St Clare Hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage. He served 47 years in banking including Green County Bank Brodhead Citizens Bank Monroe and First National Bank Monroe later retiring April 1 1959. He was active in education and city commissions and survived an $8000 1936 Citizens Bank robbery. Born Jan 29 1893 in Decatur Township he served in WWI with the 7th Army Corps and Toul Sector.

Ice plowing jeep sinks in Hyde's Pond injures no one

Weekend accidents across Monroe area include a Monroe park foreman escaping a submerged snow plow after it broke thin ice at Hyde's Pond in Lakeside Heights. Several fender benders followed on streets and parking lots with multiple drivers reporting damage and minor injuries.

Albert Wyss 77 Monroe Farmer Dies

Albert Wyss 77 of Monroe dies at 5 30 am Monday December 2 at Monroe Manor Nursing Home after a stroke. He retired from farming in Sylvester Township with his wife Frances Lockwood Wyss. Survived by widow Frank Wyss son four daughters and many grandchildren. Funeral 1 30 pm Wednesday December 24 at St nessy Funeral Home with burial Greenwood Cemetery.
