New Beer Age Plan Suggested
A Wisconsin legislative committee voted 5 1 to draft a bill raising the state beer drinking age from 18 to 19 with municipalities allowed to set it at 21. Telephone system to adopt seven digit dialing in Monroe
The United Telephone Co plans to introduce Extended Area Service before year’s end with Monroe first to switch. After midnight, Monroe calls require dialing 325 plus the seven digit number, replacing the old five digit method. Party line users must dial 116 plus full number. Other towns follow on dates in December. Direct dialing without long distance charges is expected between Monroe and nearby communities by year end.

20 Inch Snowfall Strands Thousands in Grants New Mexico
In Grants New Mexico an estimated 1500 to 2000 people were stranded as 20 inches of snow blocked U S 66 and I 40.
