Astronauts Guide Gemini 6 Craft To a Safe Landing

Space Center Houston reports Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford guided Gemini 6 to a safe Atlantic splashdown near the Wasp after a near perfect re entry. Gemini 7 piloted by Frank Borman and James Lovell hovered nearby as retrorockets pulled Gemini 6 from orbit and the crew described the mission as a world praising rendezvous.

Monroe Postoffice adds window service for stamps and parcel post this Saturday December 18. Windows open 8 30 a m to 5 p m according to Postmaster Myers. Yuletide Show Shines At Junior High Christmas Program

Monroe residents enjoyed an early Christmas gift with a Cadet Band concert and the play Toby Trims the Tree at the annual Junior High School Christmas program. Allan Barnard and Vance Nelson received band honors, while directors Werner Blum and Lillian Hanson were thanked with flowers. The six member cast, led by Robert Baumann as Toby Perkins, kept the audience engaged as music and drama filled the auditorium. Proceeds will help buy a Cadet Band flag to accompany a new American flag gifted by the VFW Auxiliary.

Climbers Seek Victims of Crash

Aspen, Colo. officers and forest rangers depart to recover the bodies of Dr. W. Randolph Lovelace II and his wife Mary, both of Albuquerque, and their pilot Milton Brown after their two engine plane crashed southeast of Aspen. Brown survived to place the doctor’s body beside his wife and cover them with coats. recovery could take until late afternoon.

Women Deliver Christmas Cheer To Monroe Nursing Homes

Seven women led by Mrs. James Forbes organize Christmas Cheer a Christ mas Stocking project to brighten Monroe Manor Wagner's White Haven City Hotel residents. They loaded 108 gift containers with Girl Scout cookies fruit and candy and plan to deliver this afternoon. Local Girl Scouts prepared cookies apples and oranges while Fritos were donated by a local producer. Last year sixty seven people received gifts.

Board to interview architects for new Monroe school

British author W Somerset Maugham dies at 91 in Nice after a stroke. He wan for days in a coma and spent his final years at the Riviera villa La Mauresque after transfer from the Nice hospital. His career spanned over a half century with 3 plays, 26 novels and 120 short stories. His novel Of Human Bondage (1915) remains the standout work.
