Milwaukee reports a 45 percent rise in car thefts this year with 2 180 cars stolen in the city. Authorities note juveniles account for most cases as 834 arrests yield only 158 adults. many incidents involve “joy riding” and repeat offenses.
Roy Chesebro was elected excellent high priest at the Royal Arch Masons meeting in the Masonic Temple. Officers include Walter Ludwig as king Fred Sariess as scribe Olin Flisram re elected treasurer Walter Bober re elected secretary and Fred Good re elected trustee for three years. Installation is set for Thursday January 10 with a potluck supper to follow.
Monroes historic milestone marks natural gas entering city mains with Mayor Evans turning the first valve at the Idle Hour area. Officials from Northern Natural Gas Co and local utilities noted conversion from propane, hospital readiness, and a total project cost near 250000 dollars.
Oren Lee Staley retained the National Farmers Organization presidency at its annual convention in Des Moines Iowa. Jake Nelles of Durango Illinois spoke as first independent dairy processor to announce a milk purchase contract. seven producers announced contracts, including R. E. Miller of Turtle Lake Co-op. NFC president Oren Lee Staley confirmed Miller’s withdrawal. Two Wisconsin men, Roland Waters of Elk Mound and Bob Manke of Arlington, were elected to the NFC national board.

The University of Wisconsin Saddle and Sirloin Club awards honorary membership to Jake Voegeli a Monticello breeder of Brown Swiss cattle. The club consists of undergraduates in animal science and sponsors expositions judging teams and other events.
Green County Medical Society urges residents to receive influenza shots before a new Asian flu wave hits later this winter. Shots come 30 days apart and protect only types A and B, not the common cold. Booster needed if previously vaccinated. unvaccinated should start now and finish by January 15.
