Brodhead Adopts 58.38 Tax Rate At Budget Meeting

Brodhead City Council approved a tax rate of 58.38 per 1000 for the coming year, up from the current rate by 3.54. The budget totals 215,321.25 with 92,334.10 to be raised by taxation and a net rate of 53.71 after credits.

Governor Knowles Hospitalized After GI Upset

Wisconsin Governor Warren P. Knowles, 59, was hospitalized at University Hospitals after a gastrointestinal upset while touring a meat packing plant. Doctors planned several tests and a thorough exam over the next days, as aides noted potential readjustment to local time after a 26 day Far Eastern trade mission. He was taken by police ambulance with his staff saying he appeared faint during lunch at Oscar Mayer Co.

Detroit riot victim’s father seized after 16 hour siege

Detectives arrested the father of a Detroit riot victim as he emerged from a fortified home after holding police at bay for 16 hours. Inside were as many as nine people, including hostages, during the standoff.

Swiss Colony of Monroe Begins Expansion Amid Holiday Growth

Started back in 1925 the Swiss Colony is Monroe’s oldest and fastest growing industry. The firm, born in 1925 and once the nation’s largest mail order cheese business, now runs diverse ventures employing over 1,000. A new 30,000 square foot expansion is planned to open in spring 1968 as part of a broader industrial park development near Highway 69.

Workshop Set On Arts Crafts Design Approach
