Cyrus Vance Nominated as Carter Secretary of State

President elect Jimmy Carter selected Cyrus R. Vance a veteran diplomat and defense official for secretary of state. Carter notified key senators and announced the choice ahead of a news conference with a second possible appointment banker Thomas Lance as budget director. Vance a longtime administrator and lawyer from Clarksburg W Va served under Kennedy and Johnson and was a top advisor to Carter during the campaign.

Unemployment Surges to 11-Month High in November

Sixth Annual Green County Bike-Hike Awards Held

The 1976 Bike-Hike in Green County recognized 106 participants who walked or rode 55 miles and raised over $4,923. Proceeds support Wisconsin Badger Camp for the Mentally Retarded, with portions for Green County Youth ARC and Stages social events. Prizes totaling $90 were awarded to adults and youths, and many riders completed the full 55 miles.
