Johnson declines post at National Farmers Organization convention
Ray Johnson, a rural Brod head farmer, declined the vice presidential nomination at the National Farmers Organization convention in St. Louis. Erhardt Pfingsten was reelected national vice president, Oren Lee Staley was returned as national president, and Ed Richter withdrew his nomination. The two day Kiel Auditorium meeting drew about 10 000 delegates from 25 states with Green County sending twenty delegates. Ambrose Wenger noted NFO marketing gains boosting hog and cattle prices and predicted similar gains for grain and dairy. A telegram from President Johnson praised farmers and parity progress.

Building Destroyed at Albion Academy
Fire destroyed Kumlein Hall the last building on the Albion Academy campus in Albion Wisconsin early today. The three story museum housed 26 rooms with many historic objects lost as firemen from Edgerton and Stoughton battled the blaze.

Walter Schuetz Route 3 Monroe received the Outstanding Senior Conservation Farmer Award at Jaycee Farmers Recognition Night in the Monroe Junior High auditorium. James Schwoegler SCS head also earned a conservation award as six Green County winners were honored. Schuetz and his wife operate a 280 acre Jordan Township farm with five children, several of whom inspired their soil and water conservation efforts through FFA activity and tree planting.

Mrs Stoll Leads Monticello Christmas Seal Campaign Forty-Five Years
Mrs Herman F Stoll of Monticello dedicates 46th consecutive year as chairwoman of the Christmas Seals sale. Born Edyth Blum, she taught in area schools and started seal drives in 1920 after Principal Paul Bergen urged her to help. The Monticello effort began with children selling seals to raise funds to fight TB.

Green County exhibitors won top honors at the International Livestock Exposition Dairy Show in Chicago. Dr. Nathan Bear of Monroe earned reserve grand champion with Tillie's Beauty Belle. Voegeli Farm Inc. of Monticello led Brown Swiss junior champion female and ball calf classes. Reel of Congerville sold Someday for 10400 dollars, plus prizes totaling 11335 dollars. Bear previously took reserve female honors two years running with Sugar Valley Farm. Other breed winners included Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus, Guernsey, and Holstein champions from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Ontario, and Wisconsin.
