NEW YORK Steels continued their leadership of last week as the stock market rose in early afternoon trading. Standard Oil of Indiana fell about a point after the Whiting Indiana refinery fire. Reynolds Metals, Union Carbide, Bethlehem, Wheeling Steel and Douglas Aircraft rose about a point amid momentum. Other gainers included U S Steel Republic Youngstown Sheet and Tube Crucible. Anaconda Kennecott eased. American Smelting Phelps Dodge edged up. New York Central B&O and Chesapeake and Ohio also advanced. Goodrich Dow Chemical International Paper Sinclair and Commonwealth Edison rose too.

More than 400 persons attended Sunday worship at York Memorial church to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Rev. Rich ard Torgerson led the service, joined by former pastor Rev. H. J. Urdahl and Rev. Kleven of Superior who urged outreach and modern methods. Augsburg College president Dr. Bernard Christensen spoke on the centennial theme, as judges and pastors offered greetings and messages in Norwegian.

Monroe Loses Power in Seven Hour Outage
In Monroe Louisiana a 40 000 resident city was left in darkness for nearly seven hours after a municipal power plant failure at 2 PM. Refinery Blaze Dims After Explosions At Whiting Plant

Three Tots Killed In Picnic Tragedy
In El Paso Texas three small children died when a 90 mm shell exploded during a yard picnic killing Velma Morales George Valdez and Riccardo Lujan.
