Amateur Contest Opens Cheese Day Activities of Week
About 800 people watched the Cheese Day amateur contest eliminations yesterday with four first place winners from groups I to IV and four more finalists selected for Friday, Sept. 8. Wisconsin Weekend Accidents Fatal Fourteen People
A weekend in Wisconsin claimed fourteen lives across multiple incidents. The Crabb family of Chippewa Falls perished when their car was struck by a Soo Line freight train near Sheldon, with six Crabb children surviving. Seven others died in a two-vehicle collision near Chippewa Falls, including Val Hutchinson and Ingwald Nylund, while others remain hospitalized. A private plane crash near Hales Corners killed William J. Lambert. Additional fatalities included Frances Bevek in Milwaukee from a fall, Richard Cooper in Rockford struck while bicycling, Mare Owen Murray in Oshkosh from a trailer incident, Helen Namman in Milwaukee after stepping into a bus path, and Thomas Glowacki near Stanley from a highway crash.

Miss Helland 81 Dies. Mt Horeb Public Library Founder
Miss Anna Helland 81 longtime Mt Horeb librarian who helped establish the Mt Horeb public library in 1909 died in an Oregon nursing home Saturday. Services are set for 1 p m tomorrow at Gesme funeral home with Rev E R Anderson of the Lutheran church officiating and burial in Mt Horeb cemetery. She is survived by Dr C A Helland of Argyle a sister Mrs Marie Eidsmer of Mt Horeb five brothers Thomas of Denver R O of Portland Ore C J Dr G M and Dr J W all of Spring Grove Minn and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs Gempeler of Albany Dies After Illness
Mrs. Herman Gempeler 62 of route 1 Albany died Saturday at St. Clare hospital after eight months of illness and two major surgeries. Born Ursula Blumer February 4 1888 in New Glarus township she married Herman Gempeler March 14 1912 in Monticello. They farmed in Monticello and Albany areas and for 13 years lived near Albany in the Norwegian settlement. She was a member of Albany Swiss Reformed Church. Survived by husband son Robert N. of Albany four brothers and three sisters and two grandchildren. Last rites Monday at 2 pm at Zwingli Evangelical and Reformed Church Monticello. Burial Highland Cemetery Monticello. Friends may call at Vogeli funeral home Monticello until Tuesday noon when the casket will be moved to the Monticello church.
