Winzenried Leads 440 Prelim A at Denver National Meet

Mark Winzenried, son of Mr and Mrs W A Winzenried, won the fourth heat of the 440 preliminaries at the United States Junior Championship Track and Field Meet in Denver. He clocked 48.4 seconds, surpassing the previous mark of 49.3. Wayne Collett of California held the best time at 48.2. Winzenried continued competing, while Jim Dearth planned his first national discus attempt. President Lyndon Johnson was featured at today's events as part of the two day Jaycees sponsored meet now in its fourth year.

County Kiwanis Honor Farm Friends Lauded by Nick Calabresa

Oscar Mayer Co to Move Livestock Receiving Station

The Oscar Mayer Co agreed to relocate its Madison area livestock receiving station to support Moore Business Farms Co major plant expansion. A 55 by 60 foot building will be built on land two miles south of the city on Highway 69, with operations moving early next month. Mayor Walter R. Ekum and John F. Kundert praised the firm for accommodating the move to advance local industry.

Monticello Bloodmobile Visit Planned For Tuesday

The Red Cross Blood mobile will come to Monticello Tuesday from 1 to 4 p m at Fellowship Hall of Zwingli United Church of Christ. The local quota is 50 pints with walk ins welcome. Harold Schulz chairs the drive assisted by Mrs. Ted Zurbuchen. The Monticello district includes Adams Washington Mt Pleasant and Exeter Townships and the Village of Monticello. The Aid group of the Adams Lutheran church will run the canteen.

Police Arrest Prime Suspect After a Chase

A jilted suitor opened fire at the home of his girlfriend's mother in New Haven killing five people and wounding two others. The gunman used aliases Arthur Davis and Willie Davis and was captured after a 45 mile chase in New Jersey. Police found two loaded guns in the car and expect to extradite him. The incident occurred in a city housing project with all victims described as Black. Among the wounded was a14 year old girl in critical condition.

Tom Beckman 12 of Juda in serious condition at St Clare Hospital after being struck by a car while skateboarding at Mill and Franklin. Driver Janice Coisman stated she slowed, a deputy noted the youth appeared. witness said no chance to stop. Other accidents on 11th Street left two hurt Cheryl Berger and Charles Moen. Duane Leopold’s car damaged a power pole due to loss of control.
