Fred Uffelmann Succumbs at 64
New Glarus businessman J. Fred Uffelmann died yesterday from a sudden heart attack. He was born March 11, 1901 in Assumption Illinois and owned Uffelmann's Variety Store. Funeral services are set for 2 pm tomorrow at the Swiss United Church of Christ with Kohls and Zentner Funeral Homes handling arrangements. Surviving are his wife Emma, a son Larry, four brothers, a sister, and one grandson.

Gen Farrand, longtime St. John's leader, dies at 90

William Stuckey, Monroe Schools business administrator, says all routes are complete and about 900 rural students will be transported this year. Fourteen regular routes plus five secondary routes for grades one to four and noon kindergarten transport are planned. A Thursday Aug 26 trial run will estimate times ahead of Friday Aug 27 first full day, with kindergarten starting Monday Aug 30.
