Pilot Dies as Plane Crashes Near Janesville
A rented single engine plane crashed and exploded in a soybean field near Janesville Friday night killing 33 year old Robert Carruthers of Minneapolis. Sheriff deputies identified the victim. cause is undetermined as wreckage was scattered in a large hole. The flight was from Cleveland to Minneapolis, rental from Flying Cloud Airport Hopkins.

Gas Pipeline Blast Kills Girl Near Hart
A natural gas pipeline exploded as a freight train passed, killing 9 year old Nancy Anna May Rigdon and injuring at least eight others. Fire fed by gas from the line burned for two hours in a rural area nine miles south of Van Wert, Ohio, destroying about 100 acres of trees and crops. Deputies said motorists on U.S. 30 saw a fireball up to 40 miles away.

Go-Kart Races Nearing Climax At Sugar River Raceway
The International Kart Federation Grand National Sprint Championship nears its climax at Sugar River Raceway with main events scheduled this afternoon and tomorrow.
