Final Monroe summer band concert features Juda Square Dancers

The last outdoor concert of the season is Monday at 8 p.m. in General Nathan Twining Park Band Shell. The Monroe City Band presents marches and concert selections with soloists, including chimes by Vickie Neuberger and accordion by Maynard Heins, plus vocal solos by Jack Close and Leigh Darton.

Lunch Program and Bus Routes Set for Monroe Schools

William Stuckey announces start dates for lunch and milk programs across Monroe's elementary to senior high, with 1 000 students to be transported on 16 regular and 7 secondary routes. Trial bus runs on Aug 29 precede normal classes beginning Aug 27 for most students.

The James River crested near 31 feet sweeping debris through Virginia. Regions around Buena Vista faced explosive propane tank losses. casualties rose with 46 confirmed dead and about 100 missing in western Virginia amid remnants of Camille.

Legion Studies Fair Beer Plan At Green County Fair

American Legion members voted to push major changes in beer sales at the Green County Fair after reports minors obtain beer. They noted existing measures such as 30 foot rule, paper cups, and two deputies, but observed unsupervised grandstand sales and possible passing of beer to minors. Commander Connors will form a committee to meet fair board officials.

Fall Fire School Set With 1500 Firemen Expected

More than 1,500 firefighters from 164 departments in Wisconsin Illinois and Iowa are to attend the annual Fall Fire School at the Monroe Fairgrounds. Registration 8 to 9 a.m. and a free public afternoon program begin at 1 p.m. with demonstrations and a parade of equipment.

Juda Chicken Barbecue Set for August 23 in Juda

The Juda Businessmen and Firemen host their annual chicken barbecue Saturday August 23 starting at 4 30 p m in the bus garage and fire house area with 2000 expected diners. A 1 75 ticket price covers barbecue chicken French fries cole slaw buns and beverages with carry outs and delivery nearby. State Line Squares will provide entertainment and Joe McKeown of Janesville will call square dances. Proceeds aid community projects.
