Four drownings reported in state waters this Friday
Four persons drowned in state waters with two deaths in Racine County and two in Waukesha County. A 9 year old boy named Tony fell from a railroad trestle into four feet of water while his brother attempted a rescue. Thomas Ley an 18 year old Milwaukee resident drowned while swimming with friends in a Waukesha County park. Colleen Jakubiak of Shorewood drowned when the canoe she was riding in overturned on the Fox River near Big Bend.

Drowned Racine youngster found in backyard pool
A three year old boy named Mark Kuhn, missing since Wednesday night, was found drowned Friday evening in a seven foot deep backyard pool about 200 yards from his home. Hundreds had searched woods for two days while authorities considered how the nylon net cover was moved during the days of inquiry.

Traffic toll climbs to 649 in Wisconsin crash report
A Marathon County collision raised Wisconsin 1971 highway death toll to 649 with three Milwaukee residents dead in a two car crash on U S 51 near Wausau.
