CAPE KENNEDY Florida space agency reports Syncom 3 reached a near stationary orbit and could be maneuvered into position as the world’s first stationary satellite hovering over a single earth spot. Officials say Syncom 3 looks good in near synchronous orbit as data evaluation continues. Tracking was delayed by a bulky computer at Goddard Space Flight Center. The near stationary orbit was achieved over Sumatra after a satellite motor shifted Syncom 3 into a circular path with apogee and perigee about 23 000 miles.

Plane skids onto Highway 51 after rainy landing
A converted B26 bomber skidded off a Municipal Airport runway during a rainstorm and crossed busy Highway 51. Five aboard were unhurt. The aircraft, flown from New York by S A Sandy Johnson of DEC Aviation Corp Madison, could not stop on the slick runway. The tail blocked one highway lane.

Robert T. Bennie, a veteran Green Bay banker, died in his sleep while visiting his daughter in Western Springs. He was about 76 and recently became chairman of the newly formed Peoples Bank of Green Bay after a merger. Bennie had led the prior Peoples Trust and Savings Bank since 1952 and enjoyed a 60-year career in Green Bay banking starting in 1904 at McCartney National Bank.
