Simmons Plans New Workshop After Fire Loss
Wendell L. Simmons owner of Monroe Construction Co says he will begin building a new workshop by September 1 after a fire partially destroyed the cabinet unit. The total loss is likely to exceed 30 000 with a 60 by 130 building planned on his 905 19th Street property across from the current shop. The old Stoldt building will house emergency quarters for two months with heat discouraged. The state Industrial Commission approved the temporary arrangement and a rental fee will be set later. Fire chief Josef J. Benkert noted ruins were being sifted but origin of the blaze could not be determined.

Fred H. Blumer Dies at 74 in Monroe
Fred H. Blumer, 74, of 1314 21st Street, died at 9:30 a.m. today in St. Clare hospital after a seven year illness. He was born Oct. 27, 1881 in Stephenson County Illinois and married Frances Link in 1906. Survivors include four children, a brother, a sister, a stepsister, and four grandchildren. Services Monday at 2 p.m. at Shriner Neushwander funeral home with burial in Greenwood cemetery.
