Police report an automobile driven by Maj. Gen. Roger M. Ramey struck and killed a woman pedestrian at a downtown street corner. The victim is identified as Ruth Huntley, 29, a Black woman.

George J Rew former Oshkosh fire chief for 15 years until his 1945 retirement died yesterday in a local hospital. He leaves a wife a daughter and a sister as survivors.
The Army and Marine Corps announce further recall of reserve personnel. Marine volunteers at or below sergeant will be activated, with officers ranked captain and lieutenant in ground forces to report in September and October. Army adds 570 engineer officers to the recall, raising total recalled officers to 8,432. The Navy reopens Midway Station and plans to reactivate facilities at Subic Bay.
First Lt. William Hotchkiss of Wisconsin posthumously receives the Distinguished Service Cross from U S Eighth Army Headquarters in Korea. He died in the Kum river fighting after assaulting four enemy machine gun nests and inspiring his men before being killed.

The mother is weak but well and the other three infants are reported doing fine. Names of the first two babies were not disclosed.
Myron Elmore Gurnea, 48, an FBI inspector who helped with major cases, fell overboard from an anchored motor cruiser on the Potomac River and drowned. He was aboard a cruiser owned by Eugene Meacham, a lawyer and retired navy captain, during a nighttime outing. His body had not been recovered hours later. Gurnea worked on the Amerasian secret documents case, the Brinks armored car robbery case in Boston, the Roger Tough case in Chicago, and multiple bank robberies and kidnappings.
Julien Lahaut 66 head of Belgium’s Communist Party was killed by two gunmen in Liege last night. The attackers fired three shots at about 9 30 p m as Lahaut answered a bell and his wife witnessed the murder. The party paper claims pro Leopoldists organized the assassination.
