Best Showing Of Beef Praised At Warren Fair

The Warren Times reports the Joe Daviess County Fair praised its beef displays. Brad Schlicting of Stockton led with grand champion Aberdeen Angus and received the Oscar Mayer watch. Bradley Mitchell of Pearl City was reserve. Several senior and junior champions across Angus, Shorthorn, and Hereford breeds were named, with Brad Schlichting’s Angus steer crowned grand champion of all breeds.

Green County to Start Special Education Classes Aug 28

The Green County Special Education program will begin Monday August 28 at the former Green County Teachers College with a teachers workshop and student classes. Enrollment is expected around 30 with a federal hot lunch program starting. Rudolph Haskee administers the program with teachers including Helen Ginner Mabel Probst Mabel Haskee and Tom Rust.

Barbecued Beef Planned for Kiwanis Farmers Night

The Kiwanis Club hosts its annual Farmers Night supper at Turner Hall on Wednesday August 16 at 7 30 p m featuring barbecued beef and a program. Duane Helland Juda named meat chef and Sebastian Laeser Club chairman. Joe Larson Sparta Wis known as the Bob Hope of Dairyland will speak. he leads Sparta Brush Co Inc and serves on the Dairy and Food Industries Supply Association board. Attendees include members from five area watershed groups and local farmers and Kiwanis members.

Madison Special reports David Williams 65 of Middleton will retire as University Extension professor and head of agriculture production and management. Beginning as a 1927 Dodgeville teacher, Williams led extension teams, led tours to South America and Asia, and influenced farming methods. He will remain active with CROP and Livestock Conservation Inc. and assist Extension on special assignments including Manitoba seminar.

Barry Wood Reveals Long Line of Scholastic Honors

Barry Wood of Richland Washington visited Green County to research his family history. The 19 year old displayed a quiet list of achievements including being named Brigham Young University’s outstanding chemistry student last year, a National Merit Scholarship finalist in 1966, NSF sponsored summer chemistry program completion with High Honors, and awards from the Scholastic Writing Awards Contest. He also attended a 1964 Seattle conference on Junior Science and Humanities.
